GETTING HERE

Getting to the island is part of the fun! And it can be an adventure! You have three choices when its comes to travel: ferry, passenger boat or small plane.

GETTING AROUND

The island is best seen on foot or by bicycle. Be sure to stay on the public roads, not people’s driveways. (You can download a map here). You can also make use of Guber Taxi, a local island taxi service. Please schedule trips in advance.

WHAT TO BRING

Matinicus is a pack on/pack off island. Be sure to bring enough food and beverages for your entire stay. Don’t forget some layers, sunscreen, and bug spray. Ask your property owner about drinking water before coming. Many have potable water, but some do not and it’s best to know in advance!

FIRE AND SAFETY

There are no open fires on Matinicus Island without a permit from the Fire Chief.

RECYCLING

Recycling sheds are open on Saturdays at 10 am with additional summer hours posted. Please review the recycling document which details what is accepted and what is not. Be sure to follow the recycling and trash disposal rules or be prepared to take your garbage off the island yourself.
